Robert "Bob" Sullender
2/25/1922 - 11/25/2015

Robert Elbert Sullender, 93, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 8:19 AM, Wednesday, November 25th, 2015 at the Jewel House Assisted Living Center in Madison, IN. Bob was born in Madison, IN on February 25, 1922, a son of the late Agnes (Peak) and Joseph  Sullender. He spent his early years in Madison, then later in Indianapolis with his Aunt Ethel. Bob served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. While in service he served in numerous places including Africa, India and Italy. On August 17, 1946 he married Hazel (Blodgett) Sullender in Madison, IN. Bob and Hazel were married nearly 58 years until her passing in 2004. He worked at the Fisher Body Plant (GM) in Hamilton, OH for 33 years, from 1948 to 1982. Bob was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #233, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Rising Sun VFW and the Vevay American Legion and past member of the Rising Sun American Legion. He was baptized at North Madison Christian Church in 2014. Bob enjoyed watching the Reds, IU basketball and NASCAR and was a Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan. He liked to fish and also hunt in his younger days. Bob also took great pride in his garden and flowers. Bob loved animals, especially the family pets.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Leigh "Becky" Curlin (Gil) of North Vernon, IN; Dorothy LaVerne "Dottie" Sullender Housemeyer (Gary) of Loveland, OH; a son, Robert Dean "Rob" Sullender (Kathy) of Montgomery, IN; by grandchildren, Kimberly Roark (Michael) of Madison, IN; Billy Probst of New Albany, IN; Danny Probst, Sr. of Houston, TX; Brian Curlin of Madison, IN; Eric Curlin (Carrie) of Columbus, IN; Brent Curlin of North Vernon, IN; Isaac and Emily Sullender of Montgomery, IN; Victoria, Olivia and Charles Housemeyer of Loveland, OH; by 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife, Hazel, by four brothers, by his daughter Sherlynn Jean Sullender in 2005 and by a great granddaughter Caitlin McKenzie Roark. Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Monday, November 30 at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with John Davis officiating. Friends are invited to call Sunday 5-8 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors by the Madison American Legion Color Guard will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
