Donald E. Myers

Donald E. Myers, 99 of Milan passed away Wednesday April 1, 2015 at Ripley Crossing at Milan.  Don was born Tuesday April 27, 1915 in Milan the son of Carl L. and Maude (Hillman) Myers.  He married Ruby (Wall) Myers June 9, 1937 and she preceded him in death May 31, 1968.  He later married Geneva (Wildman) Myers December 26, 1969 and she survives.  Don was a 1932 graduate of Milan High School, and worked at AVCO (Crosley Co.) and Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana. He moved back to Milan in 1955 and opened Myers Heating and Refrigeration. His brother, Robert,  joined him in the business in 1956.  They sold and installed heating equipment and home appliances.  In the early 1960’s, the business name changed to Myers Gamble Store, selling housewares, hardware, and automotive supplies. The business was sold to sons, Kenneth E. and Donald L. Myers, in 1979 when the name was changed to Myers Hardware.  Also in 1979, Don and Geneva opened Myers TV and Appliance store in Milan. Upon their retirement, the business was sold to Gary and Linda Lauber.

Don was a longtime member of the Milan United Methodist Church having served in many offices.  He was a 51 year member of Gideons International, a Charter Member (55 years) of the Milan Lions Club, member of the former Milan Businessmen’s Association, and had been Grand Marshal of the Milan 4th of July Parade.  He loved baking pies, cookies and was an avid fisherman, but Don’s church and family were his passion. 

Don is survived by sons Kenneth E. (Brenda) Myers of Alma, Arkansas, Donald L. (Debbi) Myers of Milan, grandchildren Kent Myers, Henry (Sue) Myers, Aaron (Fiancee Andrea) Myers, Ryan Myers, great-grandson Tyler Myers; brother Kenneth Ward Myers of Jupiter, Florida, sister-in-laws Carol and Betty Myers.   He was preceded in death by parents, first wife, Ruby, daughters Patricia Jo Myers and Carolyn Negley, brother Robert Myers and sister Mildred Evelyn Kohler. 

Funeral services will be 10AM Monday April 6, at the Milan United Methodist Church with Pastor Chuck Britt officiating.  Burial will follow in Marble Corner Cemetery at Versailles.  Visitation will be 4-7PM Sunday at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan.  Memorials may be made to Gideons International.  Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements 707 S.
